Fishing Longboat Key Charter Report

June Fishing

This week has seen some extremely challenging weather for fishing Longboat Key! But we were still able to catch some great fish!

I had to cancel two trips this week due to rain. Most of the week we saw a steady 15-20 knot of winds out of the west.  This made some of the areas I would normally fish difficult to get too. It has been on the move with the high winds and new moon phase. Most of the bait I have been catching has been on grass flats in 2′-3′ of water near the mouth of the Manatee River.

The Mangrove Snapper and Trout bite continue to be the most productive. Most fish being caught in the same areas. This week, when we have been Trout fishing we have manged to catch Snapper mixed in with them. I have been fishing in about 3′-4′ of water on or near grass areas on the incoming tide in the northern part of Sarasota Bay.

The Snook bite this week has been pretty slow and we only caught a handful this week. The Redfish bite has been hit or miss, but we are catching them on most of the trips. The best bite seems to be better near the top end of the incoming tide.

This upcoming week is forecast-ed to have lower winds which should allow us to get to some of the areas that were inaccessible this past week. Also, the fish should settle down and get back to a regular pattern with the lighter winds.
