We are certainly thankful that none of the BP oil has reached our shores on Anna Maria Island, and we are keeping the other Florida coastal communities in our thoughts as the recover begins. As the summer comes to a close we are fortunate to say that the water and weather has been beautiful daily. We do not anticipate any harm to the shores and encourage all wanting to come not to hesitate to book rooms and come on down. The crowds are few and the sun is plenty. For accomodations check out http://annamariaisland.com/hotels/ …………rates could not be better.

So far so good is what most of the visitors and locals are saying about the oil out in the Gulf of Mexico. On Anna Maria Island there are no visual or physical effects to the beaches or waters surrounding the island. As a matter of fact it is surreal to think about what is happening in the water miles away when you are sitting on the beach gazing at absolutely crystal cear water.
There is no good situation that will come of this horrible disaster but we are thankful, that for now, everyone can still enjoy Anna Maria Island’s nature, wildlife, and [...]

Well of course we knew it was going to be crowded, but if you know how to work around them……….or just avoid them all together you can do everything you want without the hassle. We managed to not have one run in with any unruly crowds. I don’t have much of a tolerance for any type of other tourists in my way. Especially when visiting home during one of the busiest weeks of the year for Anna Maria Island. As we drove over the Florida border on the Thursday before Easter there was a small chance that maybe we had brought the weather with us. Good [...]

I know I’ve been mentioning Anna Maria Island’s Chamber of Commerce in a lot of recent posts. But I wanted to make sure you know you about the Chamber’s Visitor Guide – good stuff and you can access the guide online without having to order a thing.
Check out the Island Visitor Guide

P.S. Yes, I know it’s the 2009 Guide. Trust me. Not a lot has changed in the past 45 days.

Playgrounds are great, running on the piers, bowling, mini golf, rent a double bicycle up in Anna Maria City, boat tour, swim in the Gulf, or fly a kite on the beach. All good fun.
But today, take your kids out to find sand dollars on the beach. And, if you find any live sand dollars please leave them alone. Just take the dead ones. On a conservation note: Please don’t take bucketloads of sand dollars – one or two person please.
They make a nice website logo too!

Some people need validation. They need independent information. You don’t just show up at an Island you’ve never seen. Agreed. And, yes, I’m biased. I love Anna Maria Island. Let me make a few recommendations.
Here are my three favorite sources of “independent” information about the Island from The New York Times, USAToday and Southern Living.
