The Maritime Museum Cortez Florida was founded because of the importance of the regional commercial fishing industry. FMM tells a number of stories pertinent to all aspects of Florida’s maritime history. Exhibits include historic photographs, boat models, tools, instruments, and other historic artifacts. As a result the museum also features a large collection of shells from the Gulf of Mexico.

Maritime Museum Cortez Florida

FMM is host to a number of engaging exhibits, including the beautiful and expansive “Blake Banks” shell  collection. FMM is home to a small library of books on maritime topics that range from tales of old Florida to boat building and design.  Put aside about an hour to visit the museum and enjoy the grounds. Keep an eye out for one of FMM’s volunteer docents. If one is on duty during your visit, they will be happy to give you a tour and share their unique insights. If you prefer to enjoy the museum independently feel free. In case a volunteer is not available, self-guided tours are located at the front of the museum. A staff member or volunteer will always be on hand to answer questions or provide additional information. In conclusion Maritime Museum Cortez has enough to entertain marine lovers of all kinds.
