Mote Marine Laboratory and & Aquarium Reviews

Be sure to bring a camera because you’re bound to see some things here that you wont see anywhere else. Mote has hundreds of amazing animals, including fish, octopi, sharks, sea turtles, manatees Hugh and Buffet, and two rescued dolphins, Harley and Moonshine. We spent about 5 hours at Mote, although you could probably see it all in 3 hours (or spend even longer if you love marine life!) The exhibits were very educational and we walked away with new respect for the ocean’s inhabitants. We especially enjoyed the gorgeous shark tank and watching them get fed and trained. (The sharks are only fed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) The giant squid was also interesting – never seen one of those before. Mote offers daily wild dolphin watches and wildlife trips on their boats across the street from the aquarium. They also have kids/teens summer camps, which we’re looking into! :) PS: If you forget anything (camera, jacket, umbrella, snacks, etc) just pick it up in one of their gift shops. Other pluses: a fun little cafe, stingray and tide pool touch tanks, two huge gift shops, free wheelchair rentals, and free parking. Be sure to bring a camera because you’re bound to see some things here that you wont see anywhere else. My wife and I took ou 17 month old daughter to Mote Aquarium. We would recommend it for anyone with children or who are interested in marine life. It is a little dated, not as nice as some of the other national aquariums we’ve been to before. It took us about 1.5 hours to walk through and it held our daughter’s attention pretty well. Much of it is outdoors, so be prepared if you’re planning a trip for a rainy day. $17/adults. Be sure you walk across the street to see the dolphin pool – you’ll need your ticket stub to get in. Good way to spend a few hours with family.

We had a wonderful time here. We were considering going on a sailboat ride, but opted to do this instead…we were very happy with our choice.
We did the boat tour, and it was especially interesting when they trawled the ocean floor and we got to examine, and touch most everything that came up in the net. We saw dolphins in the distance several times. The aquarium was fun to see as well, and our grandson got a kick out of toucing the stingrays.
