Sign of the Mermaid Reviews
We’ve been to the Sign of the Mermaid many times. Some of the reviews lately have been disappointing. The food for us has always been good, the service sporadic. One night we had a wonderful and knowledgeable (female) server, and another night- a complete stiff who knew nothing of the wine, food, or pretty much anything. He finally flagged down our previous server for suggestions of wine. She was very helpful! We should have asked for her. – The food was great!! Try this restaurant but hope that you get a good server.
We had a great meal the evening we were at this restaurant. Both my wife and I had fish for dinner and the food presentation was perfect. Good choice of wine on the menu. Our waiter couldn’t have been more helpful and was well rewarded. Good food, good wine & good service. We couldn’t ask for anything more. One of the best meals we had on AMI.
Read a lot of negative reviews of Sign of the Mermaid so we didn’t go there despite the fact that we were staying just steps away. Finally on our last night, I could no longer resist the beachy turquoise weathered exterior and pink doors. It smelled good so we gave it a try and oh my are we glad we did. The service was excellent despite the busy Saturday night crowd (including a wedding party!), and every single bite was heavenly. From the warm, chewy garlic bread to the sweet little ceramic tray of pickled cabbage and such, to the entrees. Just delicious. Everything tasted fresh and was piping hot. We had the shrimp and grits (thrilled to find this as a special!!) and the lobster portabella. Wines were just wonderful – truly a fun, happy, and yummy experience.
