Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters July 4th-16th Report – Small bait Summer heat is in full effect.
Summer is here to stay for the next couple months, which means the small bait has shown up. We have all the small bait (pilchards) you want on the flats around Anna Maria Island. Make sure you are throwing a 1/4″ mesh net or you will have a Christmas tree of bait on your hands. That’s a lot of clean up too!
Beyond the small bait
The Mangrove Snapper bite inshore has really picked up over the past two weeks. When we are targeting them we are using 1/0 hooks and 20 lb leader, as these fish are smart and catch on really quickly to heavier tackle.
While we are fishing for Snapper we have been doing well with Spanish Mackerel first thing in the mornings. The Snook bite has been starting to slow down as the water heats up. We have been doing better during the strongest tide cycles with Snook and Redfish. More and more Redfish are slowing starting to show up, and right now they are pretty spread out over large grass flats. Soon they should start to group together for a better target approach to these fish.
