Anna Maria Island Gulf of Mexico Fishing Charters Report

Gulf of Mexico fishing has been HOT this week, with the winds being almost non-existent. The heat index was hovering around 100. The fish were settling into their summer patterns.

Bait has been very plentiful with most of the bait (Tread-fins and Pilchards) hanging around deeper structure. This week I have been able to get all the bait I have needed in a couple of throws. I used my 12′ Lee Fisher Humpback 1/2″ mesh net. We are starting to see fry/ hatch bait on the flats.  Soon the bait will be off the beach.

NEAR SHORE:

We are still fishing in deeper water along and  around structure in Tampa bay. The bite in the deeper water (15′ – 30′) has been the most consistent and productive. We are still doing real well on Mangrove Snapper, with most days catching close to or our limit of Snapper.  While we are fishing for Snapper we are also catching Grouper, small Sharks, and this week we also caught some keeper Cobia. The Tarpon bite has slowed down a little, but we are still managing to hook some fish when we are targeting them. The best best bite this week was on Sunday (Father’s Day). I took my dad out at 5:30 am, we caught bait and by 7:30 am we boated two Tarpon. (Tarpon #1 Video) (Tarpon #2 Video)

INSHORE:

The trout bite has remained strong with most of the fish being caught in 3′-5′ of water on deeper grass patches near Anna Maria Island Sound. This week were catching a lot of trout and about half of the trout were of keeper size (15″+). TheRedfish bite is still remaining difficult, I have seen a couple schools of approximately 50+ fish but I have not be able to get them to eat. All my trips this week have been on a weak outgoing tide or a moderate incoming tide. Late afternoon has seen a strong outgoing tide and I believe that’s when those fish are feeding.

We have still managed to pick up a Redfish here and there but the bite has been tough. The Snook bite on the other has have been crazy. Most of the fish we are catching   are around the mouths of larger bays and inlets along the mangroves or deeper grass edges when the tide is moving.  If you are looking to book at fishing charter or fishing trip and are near Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach, Longboat Key, Bradenton, Sarasota, St. Pete, or Tampa areas book with Anna Maria Inshore Fishing, LCC call Fishing Guide Capt. Tampa Bay Fishing Charters Report

This week has been down then up for Tampa Bay fishing. I started off the week with a couple trips that were tough fishing. Bait did a disappearing act at the begging of the week.  All the bait the was holding at the Skyway Bridge took off for deeper waters.  Later in the week I started going out off the beach to get smaller bait (barley fish-able). Luckily, it has been plentiful and the fish seem to like it as well.

TARPON:

This week has been slow and steady with the Tarpon bite. We are still managing to get a couple fish, especially towards the end of the week.  I worked my tail off trying to get bait and to get the bites.  Sometimes its just not your day and the fish don’t always want to corporate! Towards the end of this week the bite picked up (Video) as we got closer to the full moon and better tide cycles. While  Tarpon fishing, we are still managing to pick up Mangrove Snapper, Grouper, and small Sharks.

INSHORE:

Even the inshore bite was tough a the beginning of the week. Snook and Trout were the easiest finds.  We were finally able to get the Redfish going on Friday. We caught about 8 fish around 24″-31″. The Snook bite was pretty awesome toward the end of the week. I believe this next week should be pretty good for fishing.

There are several smaller schools of Snook and Redfish being found on the flats in 2′-3′ of water around bigger potholes. I only trout fished 1 day this week and the bite has remained consistent with fish moving towards a little shallower water around 3′. Also, this week we picked up a couple of flounder fishing in about 4′-5′ of water on the sand near deep grass patches. Bradenton Fishing Charters Report June 1

Well the 1st of June started out soggy for Bradenton Fishing. I, along with most all the captains had to cancel due to the fact that it rained and lightened most of the day.  The rest of the week was beautiful. None of my clients this week wanted to Tarpon fish, so I stayed inshore most of the week, but the reports I’m getting are still saying that the tarpon bite is remaining strong at Bean Point and along the beach.

Inshore proving to be great fishing!

Bradenton Fishing RedfishAll my clients this week  wanted to stay inshore to take home some fish for the dinner table. The bite this week was slow in the morning but picked up at the tale end of the high tide and was good through the outgoing tide.  Most days we were able to catch 20 or so trout with about half being in the keeper range.

The big trout of the week was 23″ with most of the trout being caught in 3′-4′ of water on small grass patches. The Redfish bite has been slow but we are managing to catch a couple each trip during the higher water along the mangroves. The Snook bite has been good as long as the tide is moving. Most trips we were able to catch around 15-20 with most being in the 25″ range.
