“Invest in a Life Style. Invest in Anna Maria Island.” Once Tom heard that expression, it didn’t take very long for him to persuade his wife that this was the most impressive and unexplored piece of paradise to live and raise a family. That’s when Tom and Peggy, his wife, along with their son Chris, relocated to Anna Maria Island from Michigan in 1987.Tom’s parents had a home in Bradenton since the mid-fifties, and he had visited there numerous times, making the area a sort of second home to him. Tom spent 17 years in the lending banking industry, and was even a Vice-President of Michigan National Bank. Always intrigued with the real estate market, he decided to give real estate sales a shot, and ended up truly enjoying it. In 1990, while working at Neal & Neal REALTORS, Tom was introduced to Frank Davis. The two worked nicely together, so once Frank started Island Real Estate of Anna Maria Island, Inc. in 1993, Tom joined soon after. Tom is very active in his community, serving as a past Director and Treasurer of the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce. He’s been a member of the chamber for 20 year, and is a member of many committees. On top of that, Tom has served as a Director with the Manatee Board of REALTORS, and has been a past Vice Chairman of the Grievance Committee as well as a member of the Professional Standards Committee. Tom loves playing golf and is a member of Key Royale Golf Club. When there is extra time, going boating and traveling are two of his biggest priorities. So, once you are all set to “Invest in a life style. Invest in Anna Maria Island,” just give Tom a call for all of your real estate needs and he will make your decision (and move) easy as can be!

Hello there! I am Melinda Bordes and I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I graduated with my B.S. in ED Degree from the University of South Alabama. After this, I decided to live abroad in Berlin, Germany for a couple years, and explored different areas of Europe during my time there. I was a school teacher for 12 years in North Atlanta, and owned an exceptionally successful antique business for 10 years called Old South Antiques. I have two beautiful daughters who reside in the North Atlanta area, and have been truly blessed with 4 wonderful grandchildren. My favorite activities include landscaping, attending my menagerie of pets, as well as being a volunteer for the Wildlife Rehab involved with rescue, rehab and release. I enjoy refurbishing and preserving historical properties, and restored the Fogarty Home built in 1872. Once that home was sold I returned to the Island lifestyle. I have spent numerous years of honorably serving the Real Estate public. Before I did sales, I worked for five years in the Rental Department of Island Real Estate. Listing and selling “beach homes” and meeting new faces from all across the world is my passion. That paired with ISLAND living at the beach, and that right there is heaven! I have had the absolute pleasure of composing a blog called Silhouettes at Sunset, where I post breathtaking sunsets on Anna Maria. I incorporate my photography expertise with our magnificent sunsets and information on the island, so even if you are away from the Island, you can still catch a sunset! Whether it be purchasing or selling, let me help by changing your dream to a reality!

Top 5 Activities for Teens on Anna Maria Island

Anna Maria Island Activities for teens – As a teenager myself I know it can be hard to find fun activities for teens on Anna Maria Island without the parents that won’t worry them like crazy. However, here on the island there is such a variety of activities it will seem almost too easy to get away and make memories with your friends.

Anna Maria Island Activities for Teens

1. Bike around the island

A great way to experience the island is biking. With the island only being seven miles long the trip isn’t strenuous, and is a great way to find shops and explore the island. Also, it’s a great way to keep in shape and help the environment, which is something Anna Maria prides itself on. Some great places to rent bikes are Beach Bums, Just 4 Fun, and AMI Beach Fun. Check out the Anna Maria Island bike guide here!

2. Go paddle boarding

Paddle Boarding around the island is one of the most fun ways to explore new places and sea life. For beginners, it’s recommended to find a place with calm water to learn on. Some good places to launch off of are the pier on 63rd street, Bimini Bay, and Bayfront Park. Many places are accessible by Anna Maria’s free trolley that goes through Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach. Find the trolley schedule here.

3. Catch ’em all

With the newest app Pokémon Go being released in late 2016 Anna Maria has become the perfect place to find tons of poke stops and gyms during your stay. Not only is the game extremely fun, it gives you the chance to explore the island, and meet new people along the way. Collect pokeballs and powerups at the Florida Friendly Demonstration Garden while experiencing a place you might not have known about otherwise. Also, since you’re so close to the ocean you get to find water Pokémon such as Psyduck and Squirtle. This helps add to your collection AND find better Pokémon to battle with! Want a playlist to catch ’em all to? Click here to add some spunk to your adventure! Just remember if you’re driving to be safe and #DontCatchAndDrive.

4. Eat!

I can proudly say eating different food is one of my favorite parts of vacationing, and Anna Maria doesn’t let down. Start your day off with Minnie’s Beach Cafe for breakfast on Holmes Beach, where they serve delicious pancakes and sandwiches! For lunch try Anna Maria Island Beach Cafe where they serve delicious sandwiches and platters. Dinner is served at Anna Maria Oyster Bar on the Pier where there is yummy sea food and a pretty view.  Also, if you’re craving a treat The Donut Experiment makes tasty made-to-order donuts, or Two Scoops is the home to 32 different flavors of ice cream.

5. Shop Shop Shop!

Who doesn’t love to shop while on vacation? The Island has the coolest shops, providing fun presents for the family and fun activities for teens on Anna Maria Island. Some of the best shops are:

Anna Maria- Three Island Monkeys, Two Sides of Nature, White Egret

Holmes Beach- Sand Dollar Gift Shop, Island Bazaar, West Coast Surf Shop

Bradenton Beach- Bridge Street Bazaar, Green Turtle Shell and Gift Shop, The Hive Creations

Since relocating to Florida’s Gulf Coast in 1976, I have explored – and discovered- many quiet, white, sandy beaches far away from the swarms of people. I have sailed to, and lived in, the Caribbean for 6 of those years, which is in all likelihood, where I developed my passion in finding the most serene, out-of-the-way beaches, surrounded by aquamarine waters. Anna Maria Island is the ideal place to set up my chair right in the water. Now, I have a difficult time settling for anything less.. This is exactly what has guided me to Anna Maria Island, a place that is gorgeous and tranquil, surrounded by crystal clear blue water. I have established my perfect career here as a Real Estate Agent for Island Real Estate. Because I truly value the beauty of Anna Maria Island, it is easy for me to share it with others. A lot of people pay a visit and ponder the idea of purchasing a home here, so they can feel how special it is to live here too. If you’d care to know more about buying property on our little bit of paradise called Anna Maria Island, just send me an email or give me a call. I will be more than happy to assist you in finding your place in the sun too. Visit Kathleen’s Website

Realtor Gail Tutewiler

Originally from SW Michigan, Gail & her husband, Ron, bought their first place on Anna Maria Island in 1990. She has been selling real estate on the island since 2001. When they first arrived they were semi-retired (Gail had been an International Sales Coordinator for the former Upjohn Co./Pfizer in Kalamazoo, MI) and spent a few years exploring Anna Maria Island, riding bikes down every street, walking the beach & going to all the Florida activities. They started to look for a bigger home and became familiar with all the neighborhoods & condo associations before they moved to North Beach Village. So when Gail decided to go back to work selling real estate, she was already familiar with all the property here. She quickly became one of the island’s top producers & the top agent for Wedebrock’s AMI Office for 8 years, moving to Island Real Estate in 2009. Ron stayed retired but is available to run errands, put signs up, etc. Gail has been awarded the 5-Star Award for the best in customer service for several years & is consistently in the top 10% of island realtors. She recently became active with the Home Sweet Home group to bring more residents to Anna Maria Island. You’ll probably see her and her husband, Ron, at the island dog park with their two golden retrievers, Murphy & Molly, at Roser Church, Island Players or other island activities. Gail goes the extra mile to take care of her customers whether it be selling your home or finding you the place of your dreams.
