Holmes Beach – The Holmes Beach Art District will again feature its annual town-wide ArtWalks from 5:30-7:30 PM on the second Friday of the month from January 9 through April 10, 2015. Participating art galleries and retail businesses include Island Gallery West, Artists’ Guild Gallery, Art League of Anna Maria Island, SteamDesign, Arts for the Earth, Fukinsei Art Lab, The Islander Sidebar Gallery, Restless Natives, Libby’s Jewelry, Island Tattoo and Beach Life. These locations will feature special exhibits, free refreshments, music and fun for all those who enjoy strolling through downtown Holmes Beach.
During the ArtWalk of January 9 at the Artist’s Guild Gallery, 5415 Marina Drive, there will be a reception for Ruth Eriks de Haan and her paintings will be featured in the window all month. Throughout the reception Ruth will be available to talk about her work.
Art has always been an important part of Ruth’s life and while she previously worked with oil paints, she now calls herself a “water colorist”. This beautiful Island and her travels with her husband offer endless subjects for her work. Sometimes she works from photographs she has taken on their travels. She reads, discusses her work with other artists and constantly experiments with her new medium. She has also shown her work in several juried art shows in the area. She says, “I’ll never retire; I’m having too much fun and I’m better now”.
