Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters Sept 26th-Oct 8th Report

Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters Sept 26th-Oct 8th Report.

Between a rock and a hard place…

Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters Sept 26th-Oct 8th Report.

Between the red tide and Hurricane Matthew we have seen our fair share of natural “adversities” over the past two weeks. It has been trying to say the least.

Red Tide

We will start off with the red tide issue. It did not dramatically affect fishing around Anna Maria Island, but I did receive countless phone calls regarding the issue. The red tide had more of an affect on the beach/ gulf side of Anna Maria Island from Bradenton Beach south. The further north you went on the island the less impact the red tide had.

Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew had more of an impact on fishing than the red tide. We were not able to get out and fish Thursday through Saturday due to high winds However, Hurricane Matthew was a blessing in the fact that it should of blew the red tide well offshore, or at the very least dispersed it. Here’s some video from my Marina, it was taken Friday morning when Hurricane Matthew was passing us on the East Coast (Video 1) (Video 2).

Snook

Now onto fishing, the fishing has been pretty tough with regards to Snook and Redfish. The Snook have been around but not feeding that well. We are still managing to get some, but not as many as we should for this time of the year.

Redfish

The Redfish on the other hand have been feeding well, but are moving around a lot. The Redfish are not holding anywhere for too long which makes it challenging to stay on top of them. We did catch several Redfish (Picture 1) (Picture 2) during this reporting period, with the largest being 29″ (Picture 3).

Trout, Mackerel, Snapper

The Trout, Mackerel, and Snapper bite have been doing extremely well and have been a saving grace on most trips. Most of the places I have been fishing the bite has been ferocious. Every time the bait hits the water a Trout or Mackerel hit it instantaneously. As we move further into fall the water temperatures will drop and the fishing will turn on.  On a side note: This past week we had a group of 8 Manatees come up to the boat while we were fishing, here’s a picture of two Manatees close to the boat (Picture 4).

Anna Maria Island Florida Fishing Charters January 2016 Report

Well before we start talking about Florida Fishing on Anna Maria Island in the new year lets start out with December. In December every year I commercial fish for mullet in the world renowned mullet run.

This years mullet run was pretty dismal with record high temperature in December.  Red-tide hit from Tampa Bay to Boca Grande and made mullet fishing down right tough. (Related News Article)

Florida Fishing Done Right!

We managed to catch our fair share. We really had to work our butts off for them. All told we were about 55%-60% down from where we normally end up. Oh well, some years are good and some are bad. You have to take the good with the bad.

I have not been fishing too much since the 1st of the year and am waiting on my new boat (see pics below) which should be finished in the middle toward the end of February.

inshore fishing boat Kyle Taylor According to several other guides, the Sheephead fishing is on fire. Most of the fish are being caught around the dock near the passes on shrimp.

Also, the Redfish have been biting on the warmer days on the shallow grass flats. The best results were around the Bulkhead and Terra Ceia Bay. The Trout bite is picking up as the water temperature starts to stabilize. Some have been biting jigs and others have been eating pilchards when you can find them.

Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters Gulf Of Mexico Report

North East Wind over the Gulf of Mexico slows down fishing on Anna Maria Island

This week we saw a persistent NE wind in the Gulf of Mexico all week off of Anna Maria Island. During the beginning of the week we saw gusts up to 30 knots. Towards the end of the week we saw NE winds at 15-20 knots. Thankfully, this allowed us to get out and do some fishing.

It was still windy, but the fish sure loved the wind. Bait is still everywhere you turn, from Longboat Key Pass to the piers on the north end of Anna Maria Island. The grass flats around Bradenton also had good bait. We were able to go out off the beach around Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island and catch Mackerel, Kingfish, Bonita, and some smaller Sharks.

The Redfish and Snook bite around Bradenton has really picked near the full moon (see video). The bite seemed to be better on the incoming tide. They slowed down towards the top end of the tide.

Most of the Snook and Redfish we caught this week mixed in with the larger schools of mullet. The best spots were near the vast grass flats and mangrove shorelines off Palma Sola, Terra Ceia, and Bradenton.

Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters Trip Report

Windy end to the Anna Maria Island Fishing Week.

This week we have saw some really good fishing. The start week brought beautiful weather and calm seas. The end of the week brought 20 knot winds out of the North West with gust around 30 knots.

We were still able to get out on the windy days, we just had to find some protected areas around the east side of Anna Maria Island to shelter us from the wind.

Early in the week the Redfish bite was strong. On most days we were catching around 15 Redfish (See Video).

The Snook bite really pick up with the wind  towards the end of the week. On Saturday and Sunday I took out Ray and Jeff from the DC area.  We caught well over 75+ Snook on the two days (See Video).

Most of the Snook were around the 25″ mark. Over the two days we manged to catch two keeper Snook with the largest being 32″.

Anna Maria Island Redfish Fishing Charters Trip Report

This week we saw the approach of the “super full moon.”  It brought higher than normal tides and outstanding fishing. Bait is everywhere from the Skyway Bridge to the piers on Anna Maria Island and Ft. Desoto.

Super Moon Brings Super Anna Maria Island Redfish Fishing

Usually wherever the birds (Sea Gulls, Pelicans, and Terns) are working the water there is going to be bait. Like I stated before, the super moon brought some super fishing. The Redfish bite picked up this week as we saw incoming tides during the mornings. We have been catching all sizes of Redfish from 15″ – 30+” and in all different areas.

Most of the Redfish have been feeding on the incoming tide. Look for the Mullet schools and you should be able to get a couple of Redfish mixed in with the Mullet.

The Snook have been mixed in with the Redfish as well and most have been around the 25″ mark. Most of the bigger Snook are feeding at night on the full moon.

The Trout bite has remained consistent.

This week we found Mackerel near the shipping channel in Tampa Bay. They are also out off the public beach on Anna Maria Island. The Kingfish should be here any day and we are going to look forward to some nice “screamers” on the line!

Bradenton Snook Fishing Charters Report

Steady Conditions make for great Bradenton Snook Fishing.

This week has been just that, steady. We are between moon cycles and saw moderate tidal movement in combination with most fishing trips this week falling on the outgoing tide which has made fishing slow and steady.

We managed to catch plenty of fish this week, just at times we had to wait for the fish to turn on. The bite has been stronger on the incoming tide and the first part of the outgoing. The fish this week seemed to totally shut down near the bottom end of the outgoing tide.

Bait is plentiful out around the beach of Anna Maria Island and near the northern piers of the island. The Snook, Trout, and Mackerel bite has been the best this week. Most of the Snook we are catching are around the 25″ mark near the edges of creeks and outflows of flats around Terra Ceia and around the mouth of the Manatee River.

The Trout and  Mackerel have been hanging on the edges of deeper grass. They are also near the main channels around Palma Sola Bay and the Cortez bridge. We are also picking up a handful of Snapper while we are Trout and Mackerel fishing.

The Redfish bite has been tough this week and we only managed to catch a handful this week. Next week as we will have better tides. The higher water will be in the mornings which should pick up the Redfish bite.

Report on Redfish, Mackerel and Trout Fishing near Bradenton

Redfish, Mackerel and Trout Fishing near Bradenton has been great these days.

Lets start off with bait… its everywhere. The trick is finding good quality size bait. Finding bait that is mostly pilchards can be difficult. Most of the bait on the flats, piers, and bay structure is still a little on the small side. The weather towards the end of this week has been challenging for charter fishing trips.  We saw rain and moderate wind on Saturday and Sunday brought a band of rain and some higher winds.

Get the Rod, The Fishing is Good!

The Redfish bite has been the most challenging over the past two weeks. We have been catching Redfish but the larger schools that have been around lower Tampa Bay have not been feeding too well. Most of the Redfish we are catching have been in smaller groups near bayou’s and larger grass flats around Anna Maria Island.  The Snook bite has been steady around ambush points near or on the flats when the water is moving. We manged to get a keeper Snook that measured 29″ this past week.  The trout, mackerel, and snapper bite has been very productive on the edges of channels where the deeper grass flats met the channel edges.

Anna Maria Island Redfish Fishing Charter Report

We are into the third week of the same weather pattern, west winds and rain! Even though the weather has not been cooperating as much as we would like, we are still getting in trips on most days.

The Trout bite remains the fish to go after, as the bite is the most consistent and productive. The only challenge is  sometimes getting into the open water, due to high winds, where they have been on deeper grass flats near the edges of moving water.

While fishing for Trout we are still picking up Mangrove Snapper mixed in with theTrout and hanging in the same areas. The Snook bite has conditioned to be tough as this lower pressure sits on top of us. We are picking up a few Snook here and there but not as many as we should this time of the year.

Anna Maria Island Redfish Fishing stays strong despite the weather

The Redfish bite has picked near the mouth of the bays and rivers, as all of the water from the rain we are getting pour out of the back estuaries. This next week final looks like we will seen a more stable summer time weather pattern.

Fishing Longboat Key Charter Report

This week has seen some extremely challenging weather for fishing Longboat Key! But we were still able to catch some great fish!

I had to cancel two trips this week due to rain. Most of the week we saw a steady 15-20 knot of winds out of the west.  This made some of the areas I would normally fish difficult to get too. It has been on the move with the high winds and new moon phase. Most of the bait I have been catching has been on grass flats in 2′-3′ of water near the mouth of the Manatee River.

Wet and Wild Fishing Longboat Key!

The Mangrove Snapper and Trout bite continue to be the most productive. Most fish being caught in the same areas. This week, when we have been Trout fishing we have manged to catch Snapper mixed in with them. I have been fishing in about 3′-4′ of water on or near grass areas on the incoming tide in the northern part of Sarasota Bay.

The Snook bite this week has been pretty slow and we only caught a handful this week. The Redfish bite has been hit or miss, but we are catching them on most of the trips. The best bite seems to be better near the top end of the incoming tide.

This upcoming week is forecast-ed to have lower winds which should allow us to get to some of the areas that were inaccessible this past week. Also, the fish should settle down and get back to a regular pattern with the lighter winds.

Anna Maria Island Tarpon Fishing Charters Report

Well, Anna Maria Island Tarpon fishing has been pretty hit or miss during the dog days of summer. We are still catching fish, but some days the bite is really slow.

Fry/ Hatch bait has moved out to the beaches and near passes. The bait is plentiful and the fish seem to prefer it over the lager baits. I have been bouncing from Sarasota Bay to the Skyway and everywhere in between trying to find a consistent bite but generally nothing is staying the same day-to-day.

I am finding a couple areas where I am consistently catching fish, but one day we will catch 20+ fish and the next day we will only catch a handful then the day after that we will catch 20+ fish again.

TARPON:

Most of the Tarpon have migrated from our area. There are still some fish around we just have to work pretty hard to get them on. Although I did not Tarpon fish this week, I am still getting reports that fish are being caught. Its going to take patient and dedicated clients to go Tarpon fishing right now, but if you are willing to wait in between bites  there is a pretty good chance to catch one its probably going to take the majority of the trip to get them going and are better chances are around the new moon coming up in two weeks.

TROUT:

We caught a fair amount of trout this past week with most of the trout coming from the mouth of the Manatee River and around Terra Ceia Bay. The only problem is that most of the trout are around 14″ just shy of keeper size of 15″. Most of the larger trouthave been coming from Sarasota Bay around the Long-bar area. Most of the fish we are catching are in 3′-5′ of water on the edges of small to medium grass patches near good moving water. We are managing to catch some trout while we are targeting Snook and Redfish.

MANGROVE SNAPPER:

Along with Trout, the Mangrove Snapper bite has been the most consistent. Most of the fish being caught near the Skyway bridge and shallow bay reefs. They are also around 3-miles offshore on non-publicized rock piles and structure.  We are managing to get mostly keepers. When we are targeting them we are managing to bring home a dozen or more before we move onto the flats to targetSnook and Redfish.

SNOOK and REDFISH:

The Snook and Redfish bite has been excellent of some days and then brutal on others. We are managing to catch more and more Redfish. They are starting to move into the Flats around lower Tampa Bay. The biggestRedfish this week was 29″ and was caught by Kenny Loyd from St. Louis. The Snookbite was tough at the start of the week. We had a small cold front (at least that’s what the “weather man” called it. It did not feel any cooler to me) which blew most of the fish off the flats when the winds reached 20-30 knots on Monday afternoon and night. By the Wednesday the Snook bite picked up again and we were catching around 20 small Snook a trip.

I hope everyone had a Happy 4th of July and enjoyed time with their families, friends, and loved ones. We could not enjoy our freedoms, and I could not do what I do, without the sacrifice from our Veterans and Active Military personnel. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do  for our country.
