Well before we start talking about Florida Fishing on Anna Maria Island in the new year lets start out with December. In December every year I commercial fish for mullet in the world renowned mullet run.
This years mullet run was pretty dismal with record high temperature in December. Red-tide hit from Tampa Bay to Boca Grande and made mullet fishing down right tough. (Related News Article)
Florida Fishing Done Right!
We managed to catch our fair share. We really had to work our butts off for them. All told we were about 55%-60% down from where we normally end up. Oh well, some years are good and some are bad. You have to take the good with the bad.
I have not been fishing too much since the 1st of the year and am waiting on my new boat (see pics below) which should be finished in the middle toward the end of February.
Also, the Redfish have been biting on the warmer days on the shallow grass flats. The best results were around the Bulkhead and Terra Ceia Bay. The Trout bite is picking up as the water temperature starts to stabilize. Some have been biting jigs and others have been eating pilchards when you can find them.
