Mote Marine

Mote Marine is a laboratory/aquarium located in Sarasota Florida. Since being originally founded in 1955, Mote has grown to include an outdoor, 135,000 gallon shark tank and many more fun and interesting attractions. Kids will love watching and interacting with all the different marine species, and parents will really love that their kids are having fun and being educated at the same time. There are over 100 species of marine life (sharks, manatees, rays, sea turtles, etc.) that call this place home, and Mote Marine welcomes you to meet them all! Mote also offers wonderful “Experiences”, which include Eco-Boat Tours, Seahorse Lab Tour, Shark Encounters, and more!

Sarasota Jungle Gardens

Since 1939, Sarasota Jungle Gardens has been a hit tourist attraction. It is home to 200 native and exotic animals. These animals include quite a few different species of birds, alligators, primates, snakes, etc. Jungle Gardens is over 10 acres, and is extremely popular for their pretty pink American Flamingos.  They are actually one of the only zoos in the world that allows their Flamingo flocks to roam freely. Some of Jungle Gardens Exhibits include; Butterfly Gardens, Bird Interaction Area, Alligator/Crocodile Exhibits, Flamingo Feeding Area, Petting Zoo, and more exhibits that are sure to keep the kids entertained all day.

Big Cat Habitat

Big Cat Habitat is an animal sanctuary located in Sarasota Florida. Founded in 1987, this large-animal rescue is home to tons of exotic animals, while also offering placement for animals in need, and educating the public on animal care and conservation. Kids will enjoy viewing the animals, which include; bears, exotic birds, lions, primates, tortoises, and even ligers (a tiger and lion hybrid that’re only found in captivity)! There’s even a petting zoo with more tame animals to hang out with (goats, llamas, chickens, and emus).  Don’t forget to check out the Parrots in Paradise and Big Cat Encounter demonstrations they put on!

Great Explorations Children’s Museum

The Glazer Children’s Museum is in Tampa, Florida, and about an hour long drive from Anna Maria Island. Although it may be a bit of a drive, it is definitely worth it! There are tons of different exhibits that encourage kids to use their imagination to the fullest. A few exhibits include Central Bank, Forts, Engineers Workshop, Farm, Vet Clinic, and many more incredible exhibits the kids are sure to love. Glazer Children’s Museum truly focuses on fueling bright futures through imagination and exploration, and making everyone feel included, empowered, and enabled.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (Children’s Rainforest Garden)

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida,  is a tropical wonderland full of life. This place is full of gorgeous horticulture displays, with a Sarasota Bay-front setting. There is even an area of the gardens dedicated to children, called the Children’s Rainforest Garden. This area allows kids to play, discover, and explore in a natural space. In the Children’s Rainforest Garden you’ll find attractions like their Canopy Walk and Rope Bridge, the Research Station, and other great places for the kids to explore and play!

Myakka River State Park

Discover what Florida looked like when the early Native Americans and Spanish explorers were here hundreds of years ago at Myakka River State Park. This park is located nine miles East of I-75 in Sarasota County, making it about an hour drive from Anna Maria Island. Perfect for bicycling, bird watching, canoeing/kayaking, and hiking. There are even boat tours offered, where you can explore Myakka even better on one of the worlds 2 largest air-boats, the “Gator Gal” and the “Myakka Maiden”.
