Rod & Reel Pier is a must visit while on Anna Maria Island. Here you’ll find gorgeous views of Tampa Bay along with fresh caught seafood.  It’s a top visit for all locals.

Rod & Reel Pier Restaurant

The Rod & Reel Pier is considered an institution on Anna Maria Island at least since 1947 when it was first built.  If you ask 10 Anna Maria Island locals, 9 out of 10 locals will have Rod & Reel Pier in their top 3 places to dine while staying on Anna Maria Island.  As you can imagine with that much popularity bring your patience when you plan to dine at the Rod & Reel Pier for either Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner.  All three meals have something special to share.  Whether it be omelettes or pancakes to Grouper sandwiches and Grouper dinners.  The entire family can find something to enjoy at the Rod & Reel Pier.

The restaurant is located in North Anna Maria City and don’t be afraid while driving to it as you will drive a few minutes through residential neighborhoods to get there.  Parking can for sure be a challenge but pay attention to parking signs and you can park along the street however be sure to keep your tires OFF the pavement if you cannot park in their supplied parking area.  There is outdoor dining as well as indoor dining.  See photos below for an outdoor dining image.

Believe it or not, part of the fun is waiting for a seat at the Rod & Reel Pier.  You sit out on the pier, reconnecting with family or friends while taking in some spectacular waterway views.  For sure you will see some fish and if you want to see how they are biting walk around the end of the pier and strike up a conversation with anyone fishing.  If your lucky you might see a few dolphins or someone bringing in their haul of caught fish from the end of the pier.  By the way for an inexpensive fishing license you can purchase bait and fish on the pier.  See photo of fishing cost.  What great family fun before you grab a meal at the restaurant.

Insider tip:  Below the restaurant there is a small bar that will serve soda and beer.  Beer is $3 a glass so if you are waiting for your seat go in and grab some drinks while you wait!  Image provide below in the gallery of the bar below the restaurant.  You can order food from the bar as well.

If you cannot get enough of the Rod & Reel Pier restaurant then be sure to stay at the Rod and Reel Resort which was just recently opened and renovated in 2017.  The Rod & Reel Resort sits adjacent to the parking area of the Rod & Reel Pier restaurant.  If you cannot get enough of Rod & Reel Pier food then the resort is a must stay.  Walk the pier morning, noon and night trying various meals at the Rod & Reel pier restaurant.  A perfect spot for a foodie trip to Anna Maria Island!

Rod & Reel Pier Restaurant Reviews

One of the best locations on Anna Maria Island to watch the world go by, while eating delicious breakfasts or wonderful food. Try the seafood omelette at breakfast time which is superlative – packed with fish, scallops and huge shrimp. Great freshly squeezed orange juice. We’ve been twice on this trip, so I’m afraid the surly staff aren’t a one off – if I worked in such a wonderful location, I’m sure I’d be nicer to visitors!

Each time we vacation on the island we make sure to hit this place up for at least one meal. This place is not fancy in the least bit, but the food is pretty good and the view is awesome. You can sit outside on the deck area, but I would recommend sitting inside so you can have a view of the bay- you can see the Sky Bridge. Seafood is pretty good- fried shrimp and scallops are good. You can also rent gear to fish off the pier here.

They (Rod & Reel Pier) don’t reserve, so we went early (1815) as they suggested to avoid the queues but still had to wait 40 mins for a table. Crabcakes and chicken wings were ok but not special, fish mains were similarly underwhelming. The location is impressive and it was a bit special to see dolphins swim past as we ate, but the service really spoilt the evening; without being rude the waitress was unwelcoming and I left very disappointed. Its not as if this is the only restaurant on the island so come here, have a beer and watch the sun go down, then go somewhere where they appreciate customers.
