Rod & Reel Pier Restaurant Reviews
One of the best locations on Anna Maria Island to watch the world go by, while eating delicious breakfasts or wonderful food. Try the seafood omelette at breakfast time which is superlative – packed with fish, scallops and huge shrimp. Great freshly squeezed orange juice. We’ve been twice on this trip, so I’m afraid the surly staff aren’t a one off – if I worked in such a wonderful location, I’m sure I’d be nicer to visitors!
Each time we vacation on the island we make sure to hit this place up for at least one meal. This place is not fancy in the least bit, but the food is pretty good and the view is awesome. You can sit outside on the deck area, but I would recommend sitting inside so you can have a view of the bay- you can see the Sky Bridge. Seafood is pretty good- fried shrimp and scallops are good. You can also rent gear to fish off the pier here.
They (Rod & Reel Pier) don’t reserve, so we went early (1815) as they suggested to avoid the queues but still had to wait 40 mins for a table. Crabcakes and chicken wings were ok but not special, fish mains were similarly underwhelming. The location is impressive and it was a bit special to see dolphins swim past as we ate, but the service really spoilt the evening; without being rude the waitress was unwelcoming and I left very disappointed. Its not as if this is the only restaurant on the island so come here, have a beer and watch the sun go down, then go somewhere where they appreciate customers.
